Beyond A Levels
We want all of our pupils to go beyond their A Level subjects; to choose their curriculum and to extend their thinking to develop personal qualities, perspectives and ideas; building the ability to take control of their lives, and above all, to understand what they enjoy as an individual and their role in the wider world.
Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
Our Sixth Form A-Level curriculum offers all pupils the opportunity to undertake an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), which may be essay-based, creative or practical. This UCAS recognised qualification helps pupils to develop key academic skills that will see then thrive at University and in the workplace. Projects are entirely personal to the interests of the pupils and can be chosen to support career aspirations or to pursue personal passions. Taught lessons throughout Year 12 help to teach pupils the key skills of researching, planning, reflection and project management.
Every year we host an evening to celebrate the achievements of our pupils that have undertaken the EPQ. The best projects are then shortlisted for the Ithaka Prize, do read the programme from the 2024 evening to see the breadth of projects undertaken by our pupils.
Community, Action, Workplace
The Community, Action, Workplace (CAW) programme is the backbone of the personal enrichment curriculum for Sixth Form pupils. It is focused on personal development through exciting, rewarding and enjoyable opportunities aimed at providing an inspiring platform for the future while engaging in our local Portsmouth community. Pupils have worked in local schools as reading and academic mentors; there have also been opportunities to volunteer and to develop business skills in marketing, communication and finance through work placement projects.
Ignite!
Ignite! is timetabled course that gives pupils access to a wide range of taught academic enrichment opportunities, to extend their learning beyond their core subjects. Pupils may choose from a broad range of subjects: from marine biology to criminology to film making. As part of the programme, pupils receive skills coaching and opportunities for leadership development.
