International Women's Day

We celebrate a woman who has a good claim to being the first ever female PGS teacher, albeit without a contract of employment and probably unpaid. Dorothea Barton (neé Zimmern) was a suffragist who taught at the LSE and published articles advocating equal pay and status. She married Walter Barton who became Headmaster of PGS in 1926, and taught Economics to sixth-formers. The archive has a group photo on the steps of G block from 1927 which probably includes her, but the women are unnamed.
