Featured on Portsmouth Point: Blur (Poem)
blur, a poem by Alexandra D in Year 11
reading between the lines,
scribbled and annotated,
like some grand scholar
with nose buried in ancient scripture.
when i gaze my narrowed eyes upon
those works, fragile and dated,
what do i see?
midnight strikes close by,
the church's ancient bells
tolling the city to slumber,
yet my lungs inhale the ice and frost
as i gaze unto the space above,
what else do i see?
disco party booms obnoxiously
through broken down speakers and f
aulty mics with pitchy feedback.
through every sip and gulp
of piercing, flaming liquid courage,
what should i see?
hang up the coat laying down pressure,
mindlessly discard the sweater, the trousers,
jump under the covers and extinguish the light,
head throbbing in the darkening room
with strobes of advertisements flooding my eyes.
i close my eyes though there's no difference.
when will i see?
