Junior School Reading Community
This Wednesday, the Pre-School enjoyed a very special visit from pupils in Year 3 and Year 5.
The Year 3 and 5 pupils have been busy this term working on their reading fluency skills with Mrs Hunt, Mrs Scanlan and Ms Hart, and they showcased their fantastic choral reading of ‘Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar’ and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt much to the delight of the little and big cubs. Year 5 asked questions about the stories and the children were all so eager to answer!
After the performances, the children settled down in quiet corners to enjoy some additional stories with their JS readers, clearly relishing the calm start to the day.
The morning’s event was finished with the delightful gifting of books from the Year 3s and 5s to all the pre-school children. We hope they enjoy their Christmas gift!
“I had so much fun reading to the children,” said Eve, who opted to read The Snowman to the children.
Ms Hart, Whole School Literacy Lead, said “It is PGS’s priority to showcase the joys of reading to the youngest members of the community. I can’t think of a better way of doing this than getting the Year 3s and 5s to perform and read, modelling to the cubs that reading is exciting and joyful. The buzz and joy in the pre-school was such a wonderful way to end a very busy Autumn term!”
