Change & Adapt: British Science Week

This week Junior School pupils have been busy celebrating British Science Week. The theme this year, ‘Change and Adapt', has been explored in a variety of ways across the different year groups.
In Pre-School the children were fascinated to learn how our planet Earth has changed with time, comparing life with the dinosaurs, the ice age and present day. The Reception children also linked the idea to their topic, investigating how the design of an astronaut’s spacesuit has evolved and why. A trip to the Aquarium was a highlight for the Year 1 children as they found out how animals and creatures have adapted to different habitats. In Year 2 the children worked together to discover where raw materials originate and how they can be changed and adapted for different purposes and made into everyday items.
Year 3 have linked their topic of Light with bioluminescence and enjoyed bringing to life their own designs with creatures painted onto rocks incorporating glow in the dark paints. Year 4 have imagined and designed animal ears, adapted to a particular environment drawing on their knowledge of sound and made these from a selection of materials.
Year 5 have had great fun making elephant toothpaste, linking irreversible chemical reactions with the theme of change. Finally, Year 6 have designed and created with modelling clay an alien life form adapted to a specific planet environment.
It has been a wonderful week of exploration, discovery and a lot of fun had by all.
