GCSE Results Senior School

With the most common awarded grade being a 9, there was much to celebrate for the pupils collecting their GCSE results at The Portsmouth Grammar School today.

A quarter of the grades awarded were a 9, the highest achievable result, with the average grade per entry the highest achieved in the school’s history, outside the years effected by Covid.

“The achievement of our pupils today is impressive and shows their commitment to their studies and the strong support they have received from their teachers,” said Mr David Wickes, Head of The Portsmouth Grammar School. “They certainly deserve to celebrate their results and I congratulate them.”

Public Examinations, as widely reported, have this year returned to 2019 levels of grading, so it is impressive that this year’s cohort have achieved stronger grades at 9 – 7 than in 2019 and in a number of subjects surpassed the results from last year, as did their A Level counterparts last week.

Amongst those celebrating GCSE results today was Eva who achieved all grades 9 – 8 today. “I am so pleased with my results, and so relieved,” said Eva. “The support of my teachers has been great and I’m looking forward to starting my A Levels now.” Eva will be studying Biology, Chemistry and Music at A Level.

“It has gone so fast since I joined PGS,” said Jack who joined the school from St John’s College when it closed during his Year 10 studies. Today Jack received grades 9 – 8 in all his subjects. “I’ve had so much support along the way from everyone at PGS to help with achieving this today,” he continued. “To be honest I do feel a bit overwhelmed by how good my results are today.”

“I just really want to say thank you to all my teachers,” said Lissana on finding out she had received all grades 9-8. “Obviously I’m really happy with how well I’ve done.”

Leaving PGS to move to Kent with his family, Lorcan was happy with his results today, but sad to be leaving the school. “Lorcan has had an amazing experience at PGS,” said Mrs-Bonser Wilton. “It has set him in really good stead for the future and we are sad to be leaving the PGS community.”

Finishing off a great week of family celebrations was Harrywho received all grades 9-8 in his GCSE, following his sister’s achievement of all A*-A at A Level last week. “To be honest I’m just quite glad it’s over,” said Harry. “I’m very pleased with how well I’ve done, the teachers were very supportive in helping me with these, but now I plan to just relax!”

“I very much look forward to seeing these pupils extend their academic interests and discover their passions as they develop as individuals during Sixth Form,” concluded Mr Wickes. “The next two years of their education can be transformational and I know that everyone here will help these pupils achieve their aims.”
