Storming Track & Field
There has been some great success by pupils on track and field recently as the athletics season has got underway.
Just before half term, PGS entered 8 athletes into the Hampshire Multi Events in Andover. Here they competed over 5 disciplines building a points total through the day. It was a successful day with the following notable results:
Junior Boys - 1st Josh J, 3rd Oshea B
Intermediate Boys - 2nd Will C 3rd Archie B
Intermediate Girls - 2nd Rosie L
As a result Rosie, Will, Josh and Daniel K have been selected for the Hampshire Team to compete in the South of England Championships this month.
42 PGS athletes represent the Portsmouth Schools' district team at the Hampshire Championships last weekend. There were 27 top 6 finishes which is a fantastic result and a testament to the hard work of the athletes who have been dedicated in their school athletics training.
Podium finishes included:
Junior Boys: Alex C, 2nd in Shot Put
Junior Girls: Lotti P, 1st in Javelin - with 41.30m which was a Championship Record. The previous record was 40.42m and had stood since 1995.
Intermediate Boys: Will C, 2nd in Steeplechase
Intermediate Girls: Rosie L, 1st in High Jump and 3rd in 80m Hurdles; Mesoma N 3rd in 200m; Aphaia S 2nd in Javelin
Senior Boys: Benoit C, 2nd in 400m; Josh E, 3rd in Shot put and 3rd in Discus
Senior Girls: Fola O, 1st in 100m and 2nd in Shot Put; Isobella P-W, 3rd in 800m; Milly L, 3rd in Long Jump; Phoebe H, 1st in Javelin
Those athletes finishing 1st or 2nd in their event will earn their Hampshire vest and represent the County at the Inter Counties in Middlesex this weekend. This summer, 10 Hampshire vests have been earned by PGS athletes which is a fantastic achievement.
